Homework

Students will have homework every night of the week except Friday.  However, I would encourage students to read over the weekend as well.  Students are expected to complete their homework each night.  If a student does not complete his/her homework, he/she will need to go to Lunch Bunch during lunch recess and finish it.

In general, homework will look like this:
  • Students need to read 20 minutes each night.  They need to write the title of the book they read, the page numbers that they read, and have a parent signature as proof of their reading.
  • Students need to write at least 4 good and complete sentences about what they read.  They are to choose at least one of the prompts to help them do this.
  • Students will have math homework each night.  It will usually be a worksheet with problems that are similar to the ones we have done in class that day.
Please occasionally check in with your child to make sure they are picking books at home that are on their level.  Easy books can be enjoyable and relaxing to read and are good to pick once and a while.  I do, however, like to challenge my students to also pick books that will push them and increase their reading skills.  The most important thing to remember is to make sure your child is not picking books that are too hard for them.  This will not help them improve their comprehension and will most likely leave your child feeling frustrated.  Remember the 5 Finger Rule:  For every word you don't know, put up a finger.  If you already have 5 fingers up by the time you've finished a page or two, this book is too hard for you!

Thank you for your support!
